Prego Unveils Connection Keeper to Capture Family Moments

Prego, the well-known pasta and pizza sauce brand, is stepping into the realm of technology with the launch of its new device, the Connection Keeper. This innovative product is designed to record and preserve conversations that take place during family dinners, with the goal of fostering engagement and connection among loved ones.

The Connection Keeper is a screen-free voice recorder that resembles an oversized lid of a pasta jar. It was developed in partnership with StoryCorps, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the collection and preservation of American stories, which are archived at the Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center. Unlike many modern devices, the Connection Keeper does not utilize AI, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth technology, allowing families to focus solely on their interactions.

Encouraging Meaningful Conversations

Prego's intention with the Connection Keeper is to encourage families to engage in meaningful conversations without the distraction of smartphones and screens. However, it's worth noting that the company plans to produce fewer than 100 units, making this device a unique offering for a select number of families. The Connection Keeper will be available for purchase online starting April 27th, priced at $20. This bundle includes not only the device itself but also a jar of Prego sauce, spaghetti noodles, and a deck of cards filled with conversation prompts to facilitate discussion.

How the Connection Keeper Works

Using the Connection Keeper is designed to be straightforward. Families can simply place the device in the center of the dinner table and press a single button to initiate recording. The device employs dual microphones to capture audio at CD quality, storing the recordings on a 16GB microSD card for up to eight hours on a full charge.

After the meal, users can transfer the recordings to a computer via USB-C. Once transferred, recordings can be uploaded to a dedicated microsite created by StoryCorps, where they can be preserved. These recordings are accessible only to the uploader unless they choose to share them with other StoryCorps users or make them public. Additionally, there is an option to archive them within the Library of Congress, which would make the recordings publicly accessible.

Minimizing Device Interaction

The Connection Keeper is designed to minimize interactions with the device itself, thereby encouraging families to focus on their conversations. Prego intentionally omitted a screen from the device for this reason, aiming to create an atmosphere where family members can engage with each other rather than with technology.

This innovative approach to preserving family memories reflects a growing desire among families to reconnect at the dinner table. As technology continues to infiltrate daily life, Prego's Connection Keeper offers a refreshing alternative that emphasizes conversation and connection.

Conclusion

With the launch of the Connection Keeper, Prego is not just selling pasta sauce but promoting the importance of family dialogue and memory preservation. As this unique device prepares to hit the market, it may well become a cherished tool for families looking to create lasting memories around the dinner table.
